First signs of winter bring a breath of snow, something we have not seen for awhile here at Outback Farm. Chill hours for the blueberries are good, temperatures in the teens for humans, not so much.  (double click photo to enlarge)

OMG! We are into our 5th week of the blueberry season and still going strong. This is absolutely the most fruitful crop we have had since our first in 2010.
We have tried to keep it simple so you can remember when we are open, EVERYDAY! The gates are open seven days a week from 6am (been real popular) to 6pm. As the summer heat gets stronger you might want to head out to the blueberry patch as soon as you can, it is so nice early in the morning.

It's official - Blueberry Season Opening on Saturday May 30th, 2015
Rain or shine the gates will open! Blueberries are plump and ready for picking. Rain has left fields wet so you might want to bring your rubber boots. Cole Strang Rd. (438) has washed out so detour to 470 from True Rd. (435).

The 2014 blueberry season is behind us. That being said, even though there are no more fresh blueberries for picking we do have fresh frozen available for anyone who is interested. FYI-we have fresh pre-picked blackberries available too. The produce (tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers) are coming on nicely as well so you can add those to your shopping list. Our other products like honey, jams, syrup, BBQ sauce and soap will be available year round. If you are making a trip to the farm that is a distance it is ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA TO CALL FIRST to be sure we can accommodate your request.

delicate wildflowers so small and daintyJune 28, 2014 - the weather has actually offered up some really nice picking days lately and lots of folks have taken advantage of it. The overcast days made for less intense heat and the wind made being outside feel better than it would without it. Now the rain, not so much...
at least for the pickers but it did cool things down and give the plants a drink. And for your viewing pleasure wildflowers are popping up everywhere

this young man has chosen the easy way to pick blueberriesJune 19, 2014 - We've been picking Dukes for two weeks now and they are still going strong. Some of the other varieties are ripening up too so there is a nice selection of blueberries available. Come on out, they are just waiting for you. Limited amounts of produce are also becoming available, its a surprise    each day. We are thrilled to have some of our customers back for the third year in a row. Thanks folks, you're the best.

Gate opens at 7AM unless you've made previous arrangements.
Mr.Sunshine, you make our world turnMay 30,2013 - They (the blueberries) are not ripe yet. Can you believe it? It's going to be June before we will be picking blueberries. But that's OK, they will be worth the wait. Phones have started ringing, emails and texts have been coming in, everyone is anxious to begin the season. Let's be patient just a little longer, pray for warm sunshine and then we can dive into the wonderful world of blueberries for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Stay tuned  for updates.
May 5, 2013 - Whoa! Trust me, we will not be picking blueberries by May 15 this year! Looks like Mother Nature has taken us back to the "norm" for blueberry season which puts picking time starting around the last week of May. With the weather flipping back and forth between warm and cool temperatures no time line is guaranteed. Be sure to check in as we will start with regular updates now that the season approaches. You can also email us to put yourself on our email notice list. The Dukes will be the first berry to ripen so as soon as we see signs of them blueing we will put the word out. Always call before you visit the farm to check the current blueberry availability.

really, she has to be the cutest blueberry picker everMay 15, 2012 -  It's official, we are picking blueberries. The warm weather brought the blueberries about two weeks earlier this year. Nice, we have already enjoyed them and encourage you to come out to the farm to pick your blueberries too. We will be open seven days a week from 7:00am to 5:00pm or by appointment. We provide pails for picking and bags to take your blueberries home. Our payment method is cash. high tunnel frame is up and ready for next step2012 SPRING UPDATE
As we approach the blueberry "U-PICK" season we wanted to let our friends and neighbors know we do not plan on attending  the local and surrounding area Farmers Markets this year. We offer kudos to everyone who has worked so hard on all of these venues, your efforts have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated by the community and farmers alike. We have decided to focus on the farm so we can provide each and every visitor an experience worth telling their friends and families about. We encourage you to join us in the "U-PICK" mode or visit the farm for pre-picked blueberries when available.
lots of flowers means lots of berries2011 SPRING UPDATE
Well, we went ahead and planted a few more blueberries, what's a little more work at this point. Okay, that makes two and a half acres of blueberries up and coming. Can't wait to open the "U-PICK" gates and for those of you who just want blueberries without the picking we'll do our best to have a supply on hand for you. Check back often to see when we will officially open. Be sure to contact us before you make a trip to the farm to be sure we have plenty of ripe berries for you to pick and take home.
the various stages of blueberries ripeningOh my gosh! We are seeing blueberries.....and they are gorgeous......who would have thought we could be so excited about a blueberry plant, but let me tell you, we are! We have planted several varieties and each one will ripen at different times over the growing season. This season will give us the opportunity to learn about the varieties for future plantings. Which one seems the heartiest, which one tastes best, which one is biggest? Everyone will have a favorite and we invite you to choose your favorite blueberry variety too. Some of the plants have abundant blueberries and some have sparse berries. We actually did not anticipate a crop of much substance this year. We are thinking there are definitely more blueberries than we can eat but not really enough to open the "U-PICK" gates. We'll see, stay tuned and we'll keep you posted on what Mother Nature has actually sent us this year.
it's true, if you work the dirt it will work for you
Blueberries are what we have in mind right now. Peruse through our website, it's relatively small at this time and it won't take you long at all. We are at the beginning of a great adventure. We hope you'll come visit us when our blueberries are ready for picking. You will be able to enjoy "from the bush to the table" locally grown fruit. Please feel free to contact us via the email listed below. Thanks!
