When is the Asparagus ready?
We typically start cutting asparagus just before the blueberry picking season gets going. Recommend you start looking for asparagus updates in April. Stop by and pick up a bundle or two. ALWAYS, best to call ahead to be sure we have what you are looking for when you want it.
When are you open?
The farm is open daily, however off season the
hours will vary. If the gate is open come on in, if closed, call us.
918-519-2148 or 918-519-9235 or 918-519-7396. During blueberry picking season we are
open from 6 am to 6 pm every day.
Can I come out and pick for the farm?
NO!!! Anyone who picks for the farm has been pre-screened, knows we expect a high level of quality berries, takes their time and does the job well. You can talk to us about picking but you cannot just show up, pick berries and expect to be paid.
Do you pick on the shares?
NO......what you pick you get to pay for and take home to enjoy.
Why do you sell by the gallon only?
Simply, it's easier. No fuss, no muss, no scale, no coin change. It has worked well for us from day one and our customers like it too.
Do you take credit cards?
We accept cash, checks and credit cards BUT being rural means internet service is not always what we would like so you need to come prepared with a backup payment plan in case the internet is down or uncooperative.
What do I need to bring with me when I come to pick blueberries?
In addition to your smile, nothing, we will give you one of our yellow gallon pails to pick with and when you are finished we will transfer your berries to a bag for you to carry home.
When is blueberry season and how long is
Blueberry season typically begins mid May and
can last through mid July. It's always best to check the website, Facebook
or for up to date information.
Are you open on Memorial Day?
Probably not this year, being only a week away with the berries still very green, not a lot of sunshine and lots of rain on the way, hmmmm, looking iffy. YES, from 6 am to 6 pm
Are you open on the 4th of July?
YES, from 6 am to 6 pm
Are you organic?
We are not "certified organic" but we do follow the
natural growing guidelines which include organic concepts.
Do we have to wash the blueberries?
Not really, you can sample safely right in the field. We actually recommend you do not rinse blueberries if you are planning to freeze.
How long does it take to pick a gallon?
Only you can answer that question. Some folks are pretty quick and others might be a little more selective. It will depend on you and what you want to take home.
Will the green and pink berries ripen after picking?
NO, you need to pick the bluest berries you can find for the sweetest taste. What you pick is what you get and they will not ripen once removed from the bush.
What is the sweetest berry?
That is totally dependent on your taste buds because there is something unique to each variety. We love them all but you will most likely find one you like best, and there are a dozen, that's 12, varieties to choose from here at Outback Farm.
